- :>I just upgraded from A3000 to A4000. In my A3000 I changed buster from
- :>rev.7 to rev.11 just by changing the circuits. In my A4000 i noticed
- :>that the buster was surface mounted and not in a socket.
- :>
- :>So A4000 people who have changed buster, have you put a socket there
- :>or what have you done? Please give me some advice before I start
- :>to mess around in my A4000.
-
- I have not changed my Rev -09 soldered buster to Rev -11. I do have all
- the parts to do so. When you swapout the the -09 for the -11 the are
- two GALs you must change. One is on the main board near the Buster. The
- other is on the CPU card. You will not have to change the CPU card GAL
- unless it is 3.0. I have not heard of any A4000 that came with a soldered
- Buster and a CPU card of 3.1 though. I think you can get new GALs already
- programmed from some mail order places.
-
- As far as putting a socket on for the Buster. I did notice my -09 buster
- has a small jumper wire connecting two of the pins together. I wonder
- if this wire needs to be added to the socket as well, or is just a patch
- for the particular -09 buster in my A4000?
-
- I was planning on replacing the GALs with socketed versions, although I'm
- not 100% sure the sockets will fit the traces on the PCBs. Anyone?
-
- I am in no hurry to change my A4000 becuase there are only a couple
- cards that are available that use Zorro III DMA. If you are not using
- ZIII DMA, then you do not need a new Buster. If the Amiga takes off
- again, we may see a few ZIII DMA cards again.
